Timo Nasseri (born Berlin 1972) started as a photographer but has recently built a sculptural oeuvre. Rising slowly and with infinite precision on the foundations of mathematics, his work undoes the separation between abstraction and ornament. Nasseri blends Islamic and Western influences in arresting ways, resulting in works that are alive with tensions and contrasts. Nasseri's most recent works, including the sculpture GON, for which he was awarded the 2011 Abraaj Capital Art Prize, allow the beholder to experience mathematical theories in space.
